Wow, that's fast eh?
This chapter was actually done before I edited chapter 2. Chapter 4 is going to be a few days as I feel like it's going to be a meatier chapter.
So let's run down what we know so far:
- Jamie Davis returns after missing a year in real time. He has a demonic spirit in him.
- Jamie Davis was in a "Lost Realm" for twelve or so years.
- Detective Pierre believe Jamie to be an innocent in all this and it has something to do with a death cult.

Hmmm? Next chapter, find out what ever happened to....
Chapter
3: “So Do You Know What Happened To…”
Officer Pierre left me in Eagle
Ridge hospital overnight. Before he left, I told him my story of what happened
to me during the year I was missing. I left out a lot of information and gave
him a streamlined version of it, he didn’t outright object my story but he also
didn’t really believe me either. When he was content with his round of
questioning he let me be and I slept. It was the best sleep I’ve had in a long
time. Going from sleeping on the floor or a cot in a place stuck in medieval
times, to sleeping in a hospital bed feels amazing. Along with the wonderful
sleep, the IV, and being able to feel safe for the first time in years, I’ve
never felt better.
I woke up alone in the room. There was
evidence someone else was here while I slept. A tray of hospital food sits on
the table to my right, it smells inedible, and the sad part is I’ve stomached
rat more times I’ll like to count. I didn’t bother to check what’s actually in
the tray in fear the smell might worsen if I open the lid. The next piece of
evidence is a change of clothes folded neatly on a chair across from my bed. I
sit up, unplugging the IV and whatever else they have plugged into me and got
out of bed. I undress from the white gown the hospital provided.
I catch myself looking in the mirror as I change. My body heals quickly. For a
moment I wonder how the nurses think of me, I was dragged in here because
Officer Pierre thought I was going to die, and all of the sudden I’m fit as a
horse. My skin isn’t pale, my hair is thicker with a darker colours, and the
scars that were all over my body have all disappeared. Even my tattoo of a
black crow’s wings looks brand new. I look healthy, I feel healthy, and that’s
good for what I need to do next. The clothes that are provided are simple,
jeans and a white polo shirt. They guessed my size, more on the looser side. My
pants and shirt are a bit baggy and the black sneakers they had for me are too
big. I didn’t mind, I managed to make it work and headed towards the door. I
wasn’t planning on being here longer than I like. I touch the door handle and
turn it, but as I opened it Officer Pierre stood on the other side about to
open the door. I take a few steps back. He was out of uniform, wearing a basic
t-shirt, pants, and a belt.
“Morning, Jamie. You’re up and ready to get the day
started it seems. Good thing I didn’t grab breakfast for you this morning,
might’ve missed ya. Why don’t you have a seat?” Pierre said, shutting the
door behind him. He motions for me to sit back up on the bed. He moves the
chair so it’s across from where I’m sitting and takes a seat.
“Now then, you’re looking well considering you
looked half dead when I brought you in. Last night you told me an interesting
story, do you remember it?”
“Yes, Detective Pierre.”
“Joseph. I’m not on the clock today. Some people may have amnesia after being
possessed, so I was just checking. Besides the story you told me seems… fabricated.”
He looks me over like how a skilled detective would, he was confident that I
was lying about something.
“So, where you going someplace? You
in a rush?” He asked, watching how I would handle that question.
“I’ve been missing for a year in a
place I don’t understand. I want to see my parents.” I answered, letting in a
bit of venom in my voice to show how annoyed I was about this.
“Well, we still have a few things to
cover. Like who you are, how you came here, and if that all checks out what we’re
going to do to you.”
“What I told you last night was true. I was taken to some weird place, there
was some sort of ritual, and they brought me back here. I honestly don’t know
what you want me to say? I’m the victim here.” I protested. This was a lie, but
one I hope he would accept.
“I believe you. We just need to take some blood from you later to verify who
you are first before we decide to do what’s next. Ok?”
“Yeah of course. Please do what you can to help me.” There is a silent pause between
us. I felt like I needed to speak again to reassure him I’m not the bad guy.
“So what happened last night when that…thing… took over me?” I acted shock,
like a homicide murderer would when he found out he was caught. There is a
small truth in my statement, when the beast inside of me takes over I don’t
remember it.
“No one got here, as I said last
night. It wasn’t your fault, you transformed into a demon but I was there, able
to stop it. There are a few cults out there who threaten to expose the world to
magic, and I’m afraid you might’ve been pulled into that. One group I’m looking
into is the sect of the Mad Magician.
They seem to work with demons. Which is why I think they might be my best lead.
Of course, the RCMP won’t do anything cause this stuff isn’t real, but I’m
working on something. Legally for you, as long as you tell the truth you’ll be
fine. The hardest part may be explaining everything to your family. We need to
pull that monster out as soon as possible.” Joseph explained. While I’m glad he’s
coming off to his own conclusions, I’m afraid it isn’t as easy to just pull it
out of me. I shake my head, acting panic.
“Woah, can we wait a week? I’m not sure how the
demon affects my body. I don’t know I’ll survived. Can I at least see my family
first?” I pleaded. Joseph looked down at the clean hospital floor and looked
back up.
“I guess a few days of rest won’t
hurt. It’ll give me time to dig up more information and guys to help out with
this. I think I might need to fly someone in from my home town to exorcise that
from you. But how are you going to explain this to your family? I mean even if
I do get paper work to show you that it’s you, how would they know?”
“Trust me, they’ll know it’s really
me. I won’t even need the blood test, that’s how confident I am.” I couldn’t
imagine my mother being shocked, but my sister? It might change her forever
what I have to say.
“Ok, you’re free to go.” He said,
sitting upright on the chair. I looked a bit confused but stood up.
“What about the blood test?”
“Did it last night while you were
asleep. Had the results this morning, that’s where I was when you woke up. I
just wanted to know if you would willfully consent to those blood tests.” He
added, pulling out three folded pages of paper from his front pocket. I looked
over the data and put it on the bed.
“Heh, thanks. How are you going to
explain everything to the hospital about my condition? Legal wise?” I started
to walk to the door but waited for his response.
“This isn’t the first time a cop
covered up a crime.” I’m not sure if that was a bad joke on his part as I
opened the door. I walk through it but stopped because he called for me again.
“Oh hey, Jamie. Do you know if
Claudio was with you that day you disappeared? He also went messing during that
lunch period.” I froze, possibly the first mistake in my foolproof performance
in front of the detective.
“No. It was just me.”
“Alright. Stay in touch. I’ll come
by your house later. Don’t make me regret this.” I wonder why he is being so
lienent considering he thinks I’m possessed. Was it my act pretending to be the
victim? Or is he really that powerless he knows he can’t do anything to me
within the law? I don’t know, but still something in my mind thinks I’m falling
into some sort of trap he’s set up.
I shut the door and exited the room.
Time to go home.
